Position Summary

Sand Mountain Broadcasting is seeking a dependable, energetic Weekend On-Air Talent & Board Operator to join our team in Albertville. This position is strictly for weekend shifts at this time, covering scheduled weekend airshifts, board operation, and live regional sports broadcasts across WQSB, WKXX, and Power 107.5.

Key Responsibilities

On-Air Performance

  • Deliver a tight, high-energy airshift that aligns with station formatting and brand identity.
  • Prepare localized show prep relevant to our North Alabama coverage area.
  • Record, edit, and air commercial spots, promotional breaks, and station imaging as assigned.
  • Engage with listeners via phone lines and on-site station appearances when needed.

Board Operations & Live Sports Execution

  • Run the studio console and automation system (Wide Orbit) with zero dead air.
  • Execute live sports broadcasts (High School sports, Jacksonville State University, etc.), managing commercial inventory, legal IDs, and local break inserts.
  • Monitor transmitter status and tower light functionality across transmitter sites to maintain FCC/FAA compliance.
  • Identify, document, and report technical issues promptly to the Operations Manager or Engineering team.

Punctuality & Shift Expectations

  • Arrive prepared to work 15 minutes prior to scheduled airshifts to review logs and show prep.
  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to live sports or board-operator shifts to test feeds, verify connections, and confirm local commercial logs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • On-air experience is strictly required.
  • Prior experience operating studio consoles and automation software (WideOrbit experience is a strong plus).
  • Solid understanding of FCC guidelines, legal ID requirements, and transmitter monitoring.
  • Strong digital editing skills for commercials, promos, and audio imaging.
  • Excellent punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail during live programming.
  • Familiarity with North Alabama communities and sports preferred.
